served the Viennese way,
with a glass of water
and a downturned spoon
on a silvery tray
I invite you
to join me, sit down,
a friendly waiter is already
on his way to take your order
Café Hawelka
Dorotheergasse

Almost seven years
of drinking coffee in Vienna,
and I have yet to encounter
a grumpy Viennese waiter.

You simply can do not wrong when given a cup, a spoon, a glass of water.
ReplyDeleteMagnifique!
It looks like such a classic and classy way to have breakfast. And so nice to know the waiters are all pleasant.
ReplyDeleteHow fortunate you are not to have encountered a grumpy waiter, but more so to just be there enjoying your surroundings.
ReplyDeleteWho could be grumpy in such an environment? Oh well, I guess we could say the same for the ambiance of a famous capital city in a country to the southeast of you, but those waiters can be very grumpy!!
ReplyDeleteYou really never have met a grumpy waiter? Lucky girl!! BTW, Café Hawelka is VERY CLOSE to my office.
ReplyDeleteMmmm... I'm always in for a good cup of coffee, and I bet this stuff is even better than Starbucks!
ReplyDeleteMy Starbucks barista, in green apron, is not nearly as flashy as this dude here!
-- Cheers!
I'll have a delicious creamy cappuccino with a slice of soft tiramisù :-)
ReplyDeleteThis one is not too hard on the eyes either :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful cup of coffee!
ReplyDeleteElegant top photo. Atmosphere looks very relaxing, also.
ReplyDeletewhy must the spoon be downturned?
ReplyDeleteI can't recall the last time I've seen suspenders on anyone.

ReplyDeleteMy husband, born in Vienna, has a birthday this coming Saturday. We'll celebrate with an all Viennese luncheon -- well almost all -- the wine will be a cab from Napa Valley. Just discovered your blog today. What a treat! Thank you so much.
ReplyDeleteA most civilized way to pass the time.
ReplyDeleteCan't say the same about Paris.
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful post and I like your photos... Kisses
