The River Danube is a Woman
Pallas Athene Fountain, Anno 2012

Pallas Athene Fountain
Allegorical sculptures of the rivers Inn and Danube,
conversing with each other, in a rather amorous way

Water Carrier
Holding up a closed scallop shell -
day in, day out - a form of punishment?

Dolphin Riders
At least these angelic figures
seem to have a blast, splashing around

  1. I'd like to splash with them. We've been having hot and humid weather in Warsaw for the past few days - more like Toronto weather.

    1. Zosia,
it's very hot here too (record shattering temperatures, yesterday it hit 100°F),
and the heatwave will last through the week.
I photographed the fountain Saturday morning, between 7 and 8 AM. I was quite happy being able to leave when 8 AM rolled around, the sun was already very strong.
(Funny thing, in Washington DC, when hot humid air from the Gulf of Mexico was bearing down on us, I used to dream of a dry Canadian air mass to move south and deliver us from all that humidity.)
      Stay cool! :-)

  3. I love fountains too. I don't mean this to sound strange but I'm always stunned at how clean everything appears to be in Vienna. Compared to other cities, things look remarkably well maintained. Also, I didn't know you were in the midst of a heat wave too. Stay cool!

  5. Out of the water arises, a cool emotion that sweeps us all in this summer of heat.

  8. So beautiful! I like to think that at night they come alive and frolic -- even the poor fella catching the water. (As in MARY POPPINS IN THE PARK.)

  11. Checking in this evening, it was fun to see this post and let my imagination flow.

I'd also like to tell you, dear Merisi, how wonderful the farmers market flowers looked. We are now having a chilly bit of early May, with lots of "delightful" oak pollen floating by on the slightest breeze. Sneezing times.

    xo
