I was at the dress rehearsal, but watched today's concert too, on TV.
A very Happy New Year to you, dear Merisi. I look forward to a year of new photos!
ReplyDeleteWow! Merisi, thank you for commenting on my Journal so I could find your blog. The photographs are ALL fabulous. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteAmazing...like a postcard...I was fine until I saw the Anna Torte and then I was done for!! Happy New Year to you in the wonderful city of Vienna !!!
ReplyDeleteHappy new Year Merisi!
ReplyDeleteThe ceiling pics are out of this world! I always wondered if the artists who painted ceilings like that developed neck problems...
How did you watch/listen to the New Years concert?
Steph,
ReplyDeletethank you,
and the very best of everything to you and your loved ones too! :-)
Lori Skoog,
welcome and thank you! :-)
Rosemary,
ReplyDeletethank you!
Luckily, the Anna-Torte is such a rich - but oh so delicious - treat, I need a friend to share it with, because three bites, and you are in chocolate nougat heaven, desiring no more for another six months (that's about the frequency I nosh on that delicacy. ;-)
jeannette stgermain,
remember Michelangelo, the sculptor who also painted the frescoes of the Sixtine Chapel at the Vatican? Ross King in his non-fiction book "Michelangelo and the Pope's Ceiling" describes not only the kind of craftmanship it took to create the frescoes, but also how he scaffolded the chapel and how he worked on the ceiling. I want to know for myself about the creation of the ceiling paintings of the Golden Hall, I shall ask a friend who may know.
I was at the Golden Hall for the dress rehearsal, but today's concert I watched on TV. I know there is some kind of a lottery every year, where the luck of the draw decided upon who gets tickets to the actual New Year's Day concert. As far as I know everybody can apply. There is a good part of the tickets allotted to guests of honour, Austria's president for example and other dignitaries.
Such beauty, I can't even imagine it.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
Happy new year to you. xxx
Thank you for mention the concert. it's on tonight on my tv and I almost forgot about it.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year too
I was just commenting about your lovely blog on Twitter. Thanks so much for sharing these gorgeous photos- such a wonderful escape! Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteThese are utterly astounding. So beautiful. You handle such a range of subjects so well. You inspire me.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year! The photos are just beautiful.
ReplyDeleteOh the top photo is a stunner! WOW!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, Happy New Year!!
Hugs~L
Beautiful sights. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteOoo gorgeous! I love the angel.
ReplyDeleteJust to add that I watched a recording of the concert on BBC last night. It is amazing how much a really great conductor can get out of a really great orchestra with so little arm-waving. It is astonishing how he brought the woodwind in on time with just a slight inclination of his head and half the time he wasn't even using his baton.
ReplyDeleteLoved the Cuckoo polka!
Bravo all round (including for this post!).
The perfect start to a New Year - Demels!
ReplyDeleteQuelle belle déclaration d'amour!!2010, Merisi, you speak french!!Congratulations and friendship from France!
ReplyDelete(Incredible blue/green of the dome, Demal's marvel, music, a viennese dream!)

Dear friends:
ReplyDeleteI can't say I decided to repost these old photographs with the comments from years past, I rather feel compelled to do so. I cherish the comments you all have made over the years, and the memories, and all that goes along with it. Thank you for being in my life, for brightening my day with the knowledge there are people out there who share and acknowledge my passion for Vienna and for trying to capture some of the magic moments I encounter literally ever day here. May you and your loved ones all have a very good year ahead of you!
Affectionately,
Merisi
Thanks for sharing your love for Vienna, Merisi. We all appreciate you so much.
DeleteGuten Rutsch and many more magic moments in 2016!
I didn't immediately realise this was a re-posting till I saw the dates of the earlier comments. It is splendid nonetheless - I used to enjoy watching the New Year's Day concerts live on TV but this year they are not doing so - they are showing highlights at 7pm tonight - but I can hear it on the radio.
ReplyDeleteThe atmosphere is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely impressive! Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteI can remember having an aperitif in Demel's - wonderful place! Wishing you a very happy new year from Blois!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, Merisi! X
