Christmastime in Salzburg
Over the Hills: Merisi's Viennese Escapes
Twilight at Christmastime
The sun was already low in the sky,
but having sat in a train for
more than two hours,
I decided I wanted to take a long walk,
even though dusk was falling fast
I started walking from Domplatz,
towards Nonnberg Abbey -
the red baubles must have been
somewhere along Herrengasse
This late afternoon walk carried me over the hill,
down to Nonntaler Hauptstrasse,
back up and past the nunnery again, up towards Mönchsberg,
via Oskar-Kokoschka-Weg and beyond, until the path led down
to the Old Town again, at the Festspielhaus -
a leisurely two hour walk, with some of the finest vistas
of Salzburg, the river, and the hills and mountains surrounding it
