Looking Up
St. Stephen's Cathedral
The current Romanesque and Gothic form of the cathedral,
seen today in the Stephansplatz, was largely initiated
by Duke Rudolf IV (1339–1365) and stands on the ruins
of two earlier churches, the first a parish church consecrated in 1147 *
The Haas Haus
Architect Hans Hollein's project caused
a storm of controversy in the late 1980s.
Built literally in the shadow of Vienna's
beloved St. Stephen's Cathedral, its glass façade
mirrors the cathedral and other buildings in the square

ReplyDeleteHappy Valentine's Day.
Beautiful detail shots on the cathedral. I don't think I could get tired of seeing that place.
ReplyDeleteThe cathedral is just beautiful and to have it reflected makes it even more spectacular!!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful reflections. and photos !
ReplyDeletelovely photos of the cathedral and its reflection...missing Vienna even more :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures and the reflection shot is exceptional.
ReplyDeleteAre all those people standing in the background waiting to get seats at the cafe? Hard to relax and enjoy your coffee with people hawking you.
ReplyDeleteLove the mosaic roof tiles on the cathedral! What a magical place.
Marchelline,
Deleteno worry, these are pedestrians walking through (there is a narrow spot between the building and the outdoor tables). Besides, there's plenty of space, at this very large, pedestrians only square!
That patterned roof is amazing! And with so much beauty to reflect, I think I understand the choice of mirrors for the modern building.
