Feast of the Three Magi 2014
Around noon, a shelf laden with dictionaries
decided to throw in the dowel
On the Twelfth Day of Christmas
Merisi decided to take down the tree,
with a crosscut saw -
neat job, don't you think?
Christmas Tree Ornaments
Neatly strewn all over the table,
the sofas, the ottoman - waiting to be sorted
Alas:
I can't think about that right now.
If I do, I'll go crazy.
I'll think about that tomorrow.
(Thank you, Scarlett!)
And here a treat, just between you all and me:
Spam's the reason why that pooch is suddenly
amongst the past week's favorite posts:
I really like your blog.. very nice colors & theme.
Did you create this website yourself or did you hire
someone to do it for you?
Plz answer back as I'm looking
to construct my own blog and would like
to know where u got this from.

The spam?
I couldn't have said it
any better, hence the quote! ;-)
Have a lovely New Year with no dictionaries and shelves falling. Your ornaments look very pretty.
ReplyDeleteThank you! Best wishes for a happy New Year to you, too! :-)
DeleteThose books tumbling down really was something, I sat on the sofa opposite, talking to a friend. Luckily, no child was next to the shelves, the American Heritage Dictionary alone weighs 8 lbs!
What an interesting way to disassemble a tree! And what gorgeous ornaments. I got the last of our Christmas decorations put away yesterday and ironed the Christmas napkins and tablecloth as well, Till next year....
ReplyDeleteLots of memories, those ornaments. I collected them slowly over the years.
DeleteI am hiding the unironed tablecloth in its drawer: tomorrow's another day, to quote Scarlett once more. ;-)
Oh dear , lots to do , and yes an interesting way to take down your tree :-) , Love your collection of Christmas baubles , very colourful!
ReplyDeleteI had never done it that way before, throwing it out the window and then pull it down the block to the tree recycling spot is what we did in previous year (learned that out the window trick from the neighbors). ;-)
DeleteThose baubles are painted glass.
Spam has messed around with my favorites posts too, it is so annoying! Glad you missed those heavy books.

Every now and then I put a spam-infested post back into draft, just to stop the assault. It's curious how and why older posts become fodder for the spammers.
DeleteThanks for stopping by & leaving a throughtful comment...The colors of the ornaments are so pretty that I would want to leave them out longer! I just became your 500th Follower...I'm curious if those are all the same dictionary...
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful, welcome #500! :-)

Yes, those blue books are part of the "Brockhaus" German-language Encyclopedia, there are 25 volumes in the collection.
I grew up with Brockhaus. My father would send us to the Brockhaus tomes if we had any questions that could be answered by looking them up. I remember falling asleep as a child, only to be immediately woken up by a loud thump. A Brockhaus tome had slipped out of my hands and landed on the floor (we were not only allowed to read them in bed, but encouraged to do so - I think my love of language goes back to that). I remember one of my brothers getting into trouble because he had torn out a page with illustrations of flags. ;-)
Crosscut saw - a novel way to take down the Christmas tree. I don't know why The Grizwolds and the scene with a wood-chopping machine from Fargo popped into my head. Merisi, confess, how many coffees had you had before you approached the tree? ;-)
ReplyDeleteI agree with the previous commentators a very unique way of getting rid of the tree, your images tell the story perfectly. Oh and I love your shiny ornaments.

I cannot believe the holidays have come and gone so fast. I hope your new year is off to a great start.
ReplyDeleteThe saw was a genius move. Although we wrap the tree carefully in a large tarp before walking it to the collection point, I know I will be finding errant pine needles here and there until spring! Happy New Year to you!

ReplyDeleteAs I was putting together this post in the late afternoon yesterday, I was thinking of a dear friend, whom we know from back in DC, and who's living only a block away here in Vienna (as one of life's strange coincidences, still other friends from DC live on the opposite side of the street here). Just before Christmas, these "other friends" told me how Jack enjoyed reading my blog. So, writing this post yesterday, I was thinking that Jack would have a good chuckle about the end of our Christmas tree. I published this post shortly before 6 PM yesterday. Later in the evening, we received the sad notice about Jack having passed away on the evening of this Three-Kings day, between 6 and 7PM. RIP Jack, I miss you. x
P.S.:
