View from the Upper Belvedere
All morning and into afternoon,
dark grey fog rose from the Danube river
and sat, as Carl Sandburg so aptly put it,
"looking over harbor and city on silent haunches" -
I dediced to take a walk in Prince Eugene's Belvedere gardens,
regardless. I was pleasantly surprised when all of sudden
the sun broke through the clouds and fog,
shining a spotlight on St. Stephen's cathedral,
against a backdrop of shrouded fog still hiding the hills
at the opposite side of the city

What a lovely shining moment!
ReplyDeleteIt was, indeed! And that was the beginning of a sun-filled afternoon, magical. ;-)
DeleteExcellent! At that very moment I stepped outside a shop and realised: grey overcast sky had turned blue. Magic moment after a very grey week.
ReplyDeleteI felt so lucky! I had exactly an hour's time, and the fog and clouds parted as soon as I had crossed through the gate.
DeleteWhat a beautiful reward for you and your camera... and us.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Hilary!

Merisi, aren't you happy to have been there...right place at the right time with a very good eye.
ReplyDeleteThat's a splendid view of one beautiful place, viewed from another beautiful place.

Francis, I congratulated myself on the decision to take a break, even though the light was pretty bad. And then, the curtains opened … ;-)
