The Hills are Alive
Salzburg at Christmastime

Salzburg at Christmastime
Evening walk

A long walk,
from the cathedral

up the hill topped
by the Hohensalzburg castle,

down on the other side
towards Nonntal,

then up again,
all along the Mönchberg
and back, coming down
at the Festival House

  3. Merisi, these views are exquisite, and I thank you also for the view from the train, in your prior post. I have been on that train. You let me travel to a beautiful memory from the past century.

Happy Christmas, dear Merisi, and thanks for all your posts over the years. Visiting hereabouts always is a treat and proof of the wonders that the internet may grant us.

  5. I too feel as if I am there too. We had friends who lived here when I was a child and spent two holidays here. It looks so different but beautiful in the winter light.

  6. Thank you all for leaving comments, a pleasure receive and read, every single one! My grandparents lived in Salzburg, and I got to spend my childhood summers with them. I remember many similar walks, sometimes sulking because grandfather would take yet another hill before we walked back down into the center of town. ;-)
I checked the metadata, I started out walking around 3PM, under a sky hidden by thick fog (that was the same day I took the pictures of the hoar frost from the train). To my surprise, the late afternoon sun started to break through the fog and painted the sky in the most beautiful colors, the longer I walked.
