Merisi's Around Town
Christmastime in Vienna

Mallard Ducks in Stadtpark
happily lining up for their morning routine

Morning Walk

Busy Shoppers
picking up provisions
for their Christmas feast

A Tree Ornament

on a Christmas tree alongside St. Stephen's cathedral

The Oyster Bar

is open again, festively lit

A Christmas tree,
in silent conversation with
the old-fashioned telephone booth?

We are ready to go home,
and kiss the mistletoe goodnight,
aren't we?

  2. Merisi, I am borrowing some moments from my own NYC Christmas preparations to let you know how much I am enjoying seeing your Viennese Christmas views (vintage and current.) There is something about seeing fresh greenery for sale along side of city streets at this time of year that does speak to our souls.

(This is true even when we do know that some miles away from city borders there are lots of trees growing.)

Yesterday's snow and chill has now transistioned into a sort of clear, warmish...above freezing, weather that energizes us over here in NYC.

  4. I've never seen mistletoe but always associate it with holly although they don't look alike at all do they?
Love the ducks the best of all the photos, although the poppy strudel nearly made me drool.... Have a lovely Christmas.

  7. Love the couple on their morning walk. They are dressed so elegantly. There's just something about Europe at Christmas that's so very appealing. We've been once and maybe we repeat that trip through Germany and Austria once again.

  8. Um poppyseedstrudel...looks so tempting in that picture, what is the actual name in Austrian? Loved too the mistletoe, strangely absent over here in UK.
    Thanks for such cheering pictures.

    1. Mohnstrudel = poppyseed strudel ;-)
I recently had friends over from London, and they were telling me about a friend of theirs, not a native English speaker, who insists on talking of mistletoes. ;-)
I just returned from Salzburg, there are mistletoes everywhere, even more than in Vienna. Not to speak of the many Christmas trees all over town. Hope to share some pictures, right now I am unpacking und thenpacking again, for another 24 hours trip.

  22. So often there are elegantly dressed people in your photos! Not "dressed up" but casually and self-contained in their attire. Of course, that is also Vienna! Thank you for the gifts you send all the year, Merisi
