Blue Hour at Vienna's Rose Garden
Vienna in September

L'Heure Bleue
has arrived at
Vienna's Rose Garden.
The National Theater building
still retains the faint golden glow
of the sun's last rays
sinking fast behind the tree tops,
irretrievably

giving free reign
to atmospheric blues
before dusk falls

A sea of roses
burning bright,
one last rearing up
as twilight gives way
to dove-grey dusk

  5. Merisi, the blue hour is surely enhanced by those lingering roses.

Over here, as I walk around the city, I notice that rose time is now sharply tapering. Last night the apartment's radiators even clicked into service. And it's not even October.

I've meant to mention to you that I recently read The Ocean at the End of the Lane, and did find myself caught up in that book's special world. Thank you for the introduction.

  8. Brilliant, and very atmospheric, well captured. That moment of sun-light fading, is also there in the momument...my memory says this is the Lanner memorial ( the waltz king before Strauss) is that right?

    1. Kurwenal,
this is the Franz Grillparzer memorial, at the end of the Rose Garden, looking from the Burgtheater side. I remember seeing a Lanner memorial, but where oh where??? ;-)
      Herzliche Grüße aus Wien,
      M.
