Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate;
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer's lease hath all too short a date;
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimm'd;
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance or nature's changing course untrimm'd;
But thy eternal summer shall not fade,
Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow'st;
Nor shall Death brag thou wander'st in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou grow'st:
So long as men can breathe or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.
William Shakespeare, Sonnet XVIII

I don't think I fully appreciated Shakespeare's sonnets when we had to study them at school! A nice idea for your summer post. Cinnamon and lemongrass - two delicious flavours.

ReplyDeleteI love that you have quoted the sonnet, it does say so much . . .
ReplyDeleteWhat bliss!
ReplyDeleteLiebe Merisi,
Merisi, I'm going to try to carry these images and words along with me today as I travel via the NYC subway system, hoping to transcend my own specific environment ... those subway stations.
ReplyDeleteThank you. xo
Pouring cold milk into an espresso is right above summer sins. Interesting! :)
ReplyDeleteDelightful captures and beautiful words for the day! I love the sonnet!! Hope you have a lovely weekend, Merisi! Enjoy!
ReplyDelete"But thy eternal summer shall not fade...' might apply to Merisi's Vienna.
ReplyDeleteAh portraits and poetry...I loved it

I had vowed to stay away from cafes for awhile to get more taken care of at home, but your photos weaken my resolve.
