Italy South of Trieste, North of Venice
Viennese Escapes: Along the Adriatic Coast

  1. It is fun to people watch, isn't it, Merisi!! Wonderful captures for the day as always! I could use a cup of that espresso, too! Hope you have a lovely weekend!

  2. I now know no sugar and white flour rule, so I am glad to see some ice cream ;-).
Prime parking spot for the bicycle.

    1. Gotscha! ;-)
I went through hell at Lake Maggiore, where they had a gourmet fair, the best food from all over Italy, and all I got was pure licorice (which I happen to like).

    1. I simply fell in love with Trieste and the splendid coast south of it.
Italians make the licorice, I'd say. ;-)

    1. Iced Coffee is offered here, too.
The difference between the affogato and Viennese iced coffee is that here in Vienna they use COLD coffee, which brings out the bitterness of the filtered coffee (IMO).
Pouring freshly brewed hot espresso over ice cream tastes differently. Better, if you ask me. ;-)

In italy, even Granita di Caffe' - frozen coffee crystals - is made with espresso (early birds can observe baristas all over Italy brewing espresso after espresso and pouring it into flat pans to be semi-frozen, stirred again and again, until the crystals have the perfect consistency. Served with a dollop of whipped cream, a perfect summer treat.

  8. Oh Merise, I finally tried the affogato at a cafe here. Not an Italian cafe. I will find an Italian cafe to try it again because I was a little underwhelmed by it to be honest although staff were in awe of my ordering and consuming it. Apparently, it doesn't get ordered much. Perhaps that is the problem? Perhaps the owner of the blue towel went to get an affogato??? :)

    1. It works best with Italian gelato (made with milk, not cream, and not so cloyingly sweet) and a double shot of espresso . That is an espresso cup, in the picture, btw.

You and Stefan may be right, both of you: after a refreshing swim, she decided she needed an affogato, too. ;-)

  12. Merisi, these images have brought cooling relief to this person who's still wilting in the NYC heat. We hear that The Thunderstorms might arrive later on today. We've heard that before.

    Hope prevails. xo

  16. Oh my goodness ... where do I start!? The lovely water in the first photo ... aMAZing place to people watch ... and the vanilla scoop in the espresso? Sounds divine. I am SO trying that.
