Schönbrunn's Gloriette
Vienna in Winter

Schönbrunn's Gloriette
Approaching from the north-east entrance
of the palace gardens on a dreary January day

South Façade
facing the park and the palace
at the bottom of the hill

Yet another view
of the architectural folly,
the overcast sky the color
of milk tainted with a drop of black

Schönbrunn Palace
view from the Gloriette

  1. Pure and pristine and probably quiet with that silence that snow brings.

    1. I love it when they cut the branches, using wooden scaffolding that looks like a Trojan horse. ;-)

  12. Wow - fabulously toned down tones. The sky isn't dreary - merely a beautiful palette to show off this beautiful building.

    Gorgeous shots indeed!

  13. I really love those pictures that have a (I'm assuming) random person in it that fits just perfectly into the composition of the shot. The first one is one of those. It's great!

  18. When a palace just isn't enough, get a gloriette and get away from it all... :-)

I agree with ladyfi - I love the monochromatic quietude of a winter palette. These are beautiful photos!

  20. Merisi, perhaps the weather gods saw your lovely photos and decided to allow some gentle snow flakes to fall upon New York City tonight. I wish to see a wonderland tomorrow morning, but somehow doubt that will happen.

All the same, it was a bit magical tonight. xo

    2. Merisi, any photos will have to wait for another snow. We got little accumulation and the temperature remains well below freezing.
Bundling up is definitely required...indoors and out.
