Coffee, anyone?

We have run out of clean plates
and had to raid Grandma's pantry!

Was it
only yesterday

that a reader
commented

on David
Leibowitz's blog

about
"This new Paris trend

of serving
in canning jars
"?

Well,
look at these pictures -
my lunch today -
Viennese chefs too
are happily recycling
Grandma's canning jars,
giving them
top billing
at their tables!

  4. Nice shots, Merisi.

When I was a kid, there were children who drank from jam jars, due to the scarcity of cups in their homes.

  5. I think these jars offer the perfect quantity for tasting an array of different exquisite foods. And no need to feel guilty about having that slice of yummy dessert after such a delicately light lunch!
Oh, the link to Hollman's was fun to explore - another must-do for my list when I finally get to Vienna :))

Delicious-looking photos! If the food's delicious, I'll eat out of anything.

  10. There's something very comforting about the little canning jars, isn't there? I love them. My friend always drinks out of a canning pint size jar. They're charming.

  14. spacedlaw,
I wished I could have a bowl of Settembrini's "minestra di pasta mista con ceci e gamberi" for lunch today! My Roman friend Silvia makes a similar one, with beans and gamberi, such delicious marriage of flavours!
