Was it
only yesterday
that a reader
commented
on David
Leibowitz's blog
about
"This new Paris trend
of serving
in canning jars"?
Well,
look at these pictures -
my lunch today -
Viennese chefs too
are happily recycling
Grandma's canning jars,
giving them
top billing
at their tables!

I love it! So pretty ... beautiful cool greens!
ReplyDeleteHope you are enjoying your summer!
for a moment there I thought you had missed out the coffee!
ReplyDeleteThis trend as been around for a while , especially on Cooking programmes in the UK.. but to be honest I just don't get it. Looks lovely but so difficult to eat out of .. !!
ReplyDeleteNice shots, Merisi.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a kid, there were children who drank from jam jars, due to the scarcity of cups in their homes.
I think these jars offer the perfect quantity for tasting an array of different exquisite foods. And no need to feel guilty about having that slice of yummy dessert after such a delicately light lunch!
ReplyDeleteOh, the link to Hollman's was fun to explore - another must-do for my list when I finally get to Vienna :))
Love the idea of canning jars Merisi.
ReplyDeleteSam
I think this canning jars are great for presentation and very practical for picknick and similar ocasions.
ReplyDeleteDelicious-looking photos! If the food's delicious, I'll eat out of anything.
ReplyDeleteIs lunch still being served?
ReplyDeleteAm I too late?
YUM!
Wonderbar
There's something very comforting about the little canning jars, isn't there? I love them. My friend always drinks out of a canning pint size jar. They're charming.
ReplyDeleteFascinating! I just read on another blog recently about making dessert in jars. OK, I better go find my canning jars.
ReplyDeleteThank you for all your kind comments and wishes!
ReplyDeleteAffectionately,
Merisi
I saw the canning jar serving also in Rome! (At Settembrini)
ReplyDeletespacedlaw,
ReplyDeleteI wished I could have a bowl of Settembrini's "minestra di pasta mista con ceci e gamberi" for lunch today! My Roman friend Silvia makes a similar one, with beans and gamberi, such delicious marriage of flavours!
