So beautiful! I just bought some for myself yesterday and learned that they are called "pivoines" here; and in turn I taught the florist at the market the English term peonies :-)
By the way, I just noticed that the color of your post titles now match your photos, very pretty!

I have a plant in a pot in my garden that last year appeared, grew to about two feet and then seemed to die. This year it grew again and now has two buds on it...round hard buds that could just be pink. I think...only think mind you, that I bought it about two years ago, plunged it into a pot and forgot all about it. Hard to tell in your picture if the leaves are the same. I can't wait to see if they are as beautiful as your Peonies.
If they are then it will be on their own merit, for I had completely left them to their own devices.
Oh Heavenly Peonies... My favorites. My fridge is full of them, like Cinderella's coach. If I let them out, they will turn back into pumpkins andfall apart. So fragile and transient..
Moannie: Newly transplanted peonies do not bloom the first spring. They usually need at least two years to establish themselves and bloom as profusely as we love to see them (or so I was told once by a gardener back in DC - where peonies flower abundantly in gardens, but cost a fortune in the flower shop, about 5 US Dollars a bud). Good luck with yours!
