Evensong
In Vienna's Rose Garden

Golden Hour
on the first
summer evening

The sun low
on the horizon

the air so mild
and mellow,
filled with rose fragrance

and then
churchbells start calling
for Evensong

*

Photographed
in Vienna's Rose Garden
where at times all the world's love
mingles with the fragrance
of the roses.

Six o'clock is a magical hour
in Vienna - the church bells ring
and the birds join in chorus
for Evensong.

I open the window wide
and listen.

*

I have imbedded music
in all the pictures here -
just click on the roses
and enjoy.

  1. My daughter G is playing Pachabel's Canon in D on the piano, while I prepare this post. She still is. I remember an early summer afternoon in a Venetian church, listening to the same music, not sure what is was. It was the string version, played on original instruments. I shall always remember that moment when time stood still in that church, now turned museum.

    To those we love,

  7. Incredible colours on these roses! The Pachelbel was lovely, and so was Cecilia Bartoli - thanks, Merisi, for this beautiful interlude.

  8. I'm not sure the roses could be more beautiful in 'real life' - the music adds another dimension to the photos. Enjoyed!
