    Morning

Why do we bother with the rest of the day,
    the swale of the afternoon,
    the sudden dip into evening,

then night with his notorious perfumes,
    his many-pointed stars?

    This is the best—
    throwing off the light covers,
    feet on the cold floor,
and buzzing around the house on espresso—

maybe a splash of water on the face,
    a palmful of vitamins—
but mostly buzzing around the house on espresso,

dictionary and atlas open on the rug,
the typewriter waiting for the key of the head,
    a cello on the radio,

    and, if necessary, the windows—
trees fifty, a hundred years old
    out there,
    heavy clouds on the way
and the lawn steaming like a horse
    in the early morning.

    Dear readers,
a beautiful, sunny Spring has settled in Vienna.
I am enjoying it mostly by looking out the window,
in this particular image, the sun is streaming through my kitchen window (captured while getting my umptheenth cup of tea - sort of my exercise, walking from my desk in the sunny dining room to the kitchen *smile*).
Thank you for for all your kind comments and emails. I wished I could respond each and every one, all of the time, alas, I better get down to my books and projects, to work towards finishing this semester successfully.
Warm and sunny greetings from Vienna,
    Merisi

  7. Your kitchen seems to be a very nice and cosy place! I like the Gmundner vase and the flowers (thyme?) behind it. So lovely!

And toi toi toi for your projects!

    Kindest regards, Svet

Best wishes, always, on your studies, dear Merisi.

  9. Svet,
yes, it's thyme, with variegated leaves.
    Thank you! :-)

    RNSANE,
every now and then, I pass through the kitchen when the sun stands just so, creating a beautifully lit moment in front of the window . I wanted to take "a more perfect" picture a few minutes later, alas, the right moment had passed (I think this images "lives" because of the shadows from the leaves in front - from a small ficus tree standing in the right corner - and I have not been able to catch the exact moment since).

Thank you all for your good wishes,
    Merisi
