Im Kaffeehaus
The one and only Café Hawelka

"... it must be said
that the Viennese coffeehouse

is a particular institution
which is not comparable to any other
in the world.

As a matter of fact,
it is a democratic club

to which admission
costs the small price
of a cup of coffee.

Upon payment of this mite
every guest can sit for hours on end,

discuss, write, play cards,
receive his mail, and,

above all, can go through
an unlimited number
of newspapers and magazines."

  4. Café Hawelka is my kind of democratic club & would join in a heartbeat if I were in your neck of the woods! The Café Life is a snippet of heaven in my book! Lucky you, dear Merisi & thank you for taking us along for the ride.

The National Geographic is right one hundred percent. We are lucky to have you here! My coffee never tasted better than when sipping to your posts.

  7. I long for the different pace of life in Vienna, and Europe in general. How delightful to have a cup of coffee in something other than a paper cup. To be able to sip the warm beverage while leisurely reading the latest events published in the newspapers or catching up on one's correspondence on lovely stationary. Pure heaven to me!! Thank you for taking me away for a moment!!

    Badger,
yes, Café Hawelka is smokefree and their coffee is excellent (do I have to mention that the waiters are friendly?)!

Is there anyway that you link your blog to facebook? It would be really great to get you new posts there and could easily share them with friends.

  13. Silvia,
    thank you so much!

    I am not on Facebook.
I know friends of mine have put links to my blog on their Facebook-site. I will look into it at some point in the future. Trying to pull the blog through summer is all I can do right now.

  15. If I truly use my imagination, I can smell the aromatic flavors of the coffee being brewed, the hint of chocolate, or caramel and then of course the vanilla in the fluffed cream. The newspapers and magazines, each touched by human hands with hearts that beat, very nice~

  21. Sigh! You've done it again, now I have to go downstairs and attempt to imitate that colour, smell, and hopefully taste. Not a chance in Hell, Annie.

J'ai découvert ce café dans le DVD "des racines et des hommes" 2004 spécial Vienne, que je viens de regarder. C'est amusant que tu en parles aujourd'hui.
    Bon dimanche.
