"... it must be said
that the Viennese coffeehouse
is a particular institution
which is not comparable to any other
in the world.
As a matter of fact,
it is a democratic club
to which admission
costs the small price
of a cup of coffee.
Upon payment of this mite
every guest can sit for hours on end,
discuss, write, play cards,
receive his mail, and,
above all, can go through
an unlimited number
of newspapers and magazines."

Da moechte ich so gerne mit Dir ueber eine, oder etliche, Tasse/n Kaffee sitzen und plaudern . . .
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful spot--I'd spend a week tehre...
ReplyDeleteThe mood it sets look perfect. I could snuggle in for a few hours!
ReplyDeleteCafé Hawelka is my kind of democratic club & would join in a heartbeat if I were in your neck of the woods! The Café Life is a snippet of heaven in my book! Lucky you, dear Merisi & thank you for taking us along for the ride.
ReplyDeleteThe National Geographic is right one hundred percent. We are lucky to have you here! My coffee never tasted better than when sipping to your posts.

looks like a quiet peaceful setting.
ReplyDeleteIt's divine. Someday I will visit.
ReplyDeleteI long for the different pace of life in Vienna, and Europe in general. How delightful to have a cup of coffee in something other than a paper cup. To be able to sip the warm beverage while leisurely reading the latest events published in the newspapers or catching up on one's correspondence on lovely stationary. Pure heaven to me!! Thank you for taking me away for a moment!!

It doesn't look smokey. Is it nicht rancher?
ReplyDeleteTruly my idea of heaven.
ReplyDeleteThis is what I miss, and yearn for, about city life.
Thank you all so much for our kind comments!
ReplyDeleteBadger,
yes, Café Hawelka is smokefree and their coffee is excellent (do I have to mention that the waiters are friendly?)!
Cheers,
Merisi

ReplyDeleteAbsolutely LOVELY blog!!! Thanks for such refreshing Vienna pics!!! I do not use to comment, but the Hawelka touched my heart...
ReplyDeleteIs there anyway that you link your blog to facebook? It would be really great to get you new posts there and could easily share them with friends.
Love from Buenos Aires!!!

Silvia,
ReplyDeletethank you so much!
I am not on Facebook.
I know friends of mine have put links to my blog on their Facebook-site. I will look into it at some point in the future. Trying to pull the blog through summer is all I can do right now.
I promise you sitting on end is not such a good idea...
ReplyDeleteThat was MY end talking...
But all the rest is utterly irresistable!
I luf your top image SO MUCH!!!
If I truly use my imagination, I can smell the aromatic flavors of the coffee being brewed, the hint of chocolate, or caramel and then of course the vanilla in the fluffed cream. The newspapers and magazines, each touched by human hands with hearts that beat, very nice~
ReplyDeleteMerisi, beautiful shots! I didn´t manage to take any as it was always so dark in there))
ReplyDeleteThis is surely the definition of a civilised society? Thanks for this repost, Merisi - it's one of my very favourites.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like my kind of place. I don't think there are too many places like that around.
ReplyDeleteCara Merisi--
ReplyDeleteFinally hobbled over here for a cup of coffee...I'm fading on a late Friday afternoon...& it was sooooo delicious. Grazie mille.

Sigh! You've done it again, now I have to go downstairs and attempt to imitate that colour, smell, and hopefully taste. Not a chance in Hell, Annie.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite way to relax; a cappuccino and newspapers!
Bon dimanche.
Very civilized!!
ReplyDeleteHallo---
ReplyDeleteI just found your blog on Anne from Oxfordshire's blog roll and had to stop by... She's a good friend of mine!
