Viennese Escapes: Venice
Love and Coffee at Caffè Florian
Center Stage Since 1720

Early Morning
Caffè Florian's grand drapes
along the Procuratie Nuove arcade
are not yet drawn all the way

Two Lovers
absorbed in taking pictures of
- whom else? - themselves

Another Early Bird
marvels at the splendid emptiness
of early morning's Piazza San Marco

No, I am still here, in Vienna,
but I felt like dreaming of Venice.
I took these pictures in late August.
I was on my way to Geneva
and stopped overnight in La Serenissima.
Rising at first daylight, I took a long walk
in the early morning breeze

  1. I can't think of many better places where to start the day. I wish I were there.

  2. I need to get my husband motivated or find another travel partner and get out of the UK .. I hopefully will be in Italy sometime in December. :-)

  3. Merisi, I enjoyed "catching up" on your latest strolls through Vienna, and loved seeing a glimpse of Fall, an elegant breakfast and dinner, and faded roses welcoming Fall's arrival. Of course, everything in Vienna is elegant, especially when seen through your magical lens.

  4. You make me want to be there. If not for your fine photos, I'd have no idea these beautiful places existed. Thanks for that.

  7. I love the feeling of it being just before "show time." We're doing our last minute warm-ups and waiting in the wings while the audience files in.
