Waking up
300 km from where
you'd thought you'd be
the evening before
The morning sweetened
with rock candy
and brightened by sunshine
A pot of Earl Grey
and what is - for my taste -
the best croissant
in the whole wide world,
Zauner's Ischler Kipferl:
Golden buttery brioche layers
rolled with roasted ground hazelnuts.
Austrian pâtissiers are masters at
this kind of pastry,
Zauner's creation
is one of the best I have ever tasted
Photographed this morning
at Café-Konditorei Zauner

It looks like a lovely place in which to wake up! And a fine way to start the day.
ReplyDeleteAh, beautiful! Your little part of the world always seems to be so sunny and clean!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI've got the cup of tea in hand, just missing that croissant! It sounds outrageously delicious. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteNice photos, Merisi!
ReplyDeleteYes, this croissant looks the best croissant in the whole wide world.
Have a nice week ahead.
For me, morning is not for the sweet tooth. I want bacon and sausage, maybe some eggs.
ReplyDeleteZauner's in Bad Ischl - I am s jealous :) Thank you for at least sharing the photos!
ReplyDeletebtw - Thank you for the kind thoughts. We arrived home last night and San Francisco is certainly not Bad Ischl ;)
Thank you all! :-)
ReplyDeleteBad Ischl happened suddenly (computers switched by accident, something along that line), from one minute to the next I was in the car driving into the sunset (well, west, literally). So that no one can accuse me of not knowing how to get at least a photo opportunity out of a tour de force, I knocked at Zauner's at 9:20am (the open at 10:00) and was let in and served coffee and Kipferl:
Where would we be without human kindness and those small miracles that keep us going at times?
A wonderful day to all of you!
Greetings from safely back home again
Merisi
(Oh why did I not buy an extra Kipferl?
Sometimes I am really bad at planning ahead!)
HMPH...
ReplyDeleteA croissant covered in powdered sugar is not a croissant.
It becomes something else altogether - a croller! that's what.
They make things like that in Philadelphia!
Hmph hmph hmph
That really does look like the most delicious croissant (Kipferl) in the world.
ReplyDeleteCatherine
@ ParisBreakfasts,
ReplyDeletedon't worry, Austrians are in no competition with the friends! They are doing their own Kipferl. ;-)
@ Catherine,
they are delicious indeed! :-)
It is always such a pleasure seeing these elegant places from your perspective, Merisi. So beautiful!
ReplyDeleteit is like having coffee at the Met Museum in NYC! wonderful !!

Oh, oh, oh...this isn't fair Merisi. My tummy is growling and then I look at this......
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely lovely as I do catchup after my house move. So tempting to make myself a cup, but nothing to eat quite as nice as your croissant.
