"Starry, starry night.
Portraits hung in empty halls,
Frameless head on nameless walls,
With eyes that watch the world and can't forget.
Like the strangers that you've met,
The ragged men in the ragged clothes,
The silver thorn of bloody rose,
Lie crushed and broken on the virgin snow.
Now I think I know what you tried to say to me,
How you suffered for your sanity,
How you tried to set them free.
They would not listen, they're not listening still.
Perhaps they never will... "

Wonderful .... love your work and Vienna
ReplyDeleteI have been to Vienna for the marathon in April.... I would love to see some of your images taken this coming April 18 as I will be there again for the marathon. I have also written a novel about Vienna in 1927, set in the Cafe Central. It is on amazon, search christopher rutty and it will come up.
ReplyDeleteExquisite words...

Sweet and ethereal! I'm just about to set to work at turning an abandoned dollhouse into a christmas "bunny house" for my daughter. Hoping to make it magical.
ReplyDeleteI so loved your montessori comment and quote, by the way! Makes me feel even better about the new, organized space here!
Wow...that building is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteMerisi, seeing your pictures of Vienna in December has given me a totally different way to think of those song lyrics. Thank you for shaking up my cobwebby connections!
ReplyDeleteThank you also for your comment. Bet that your baking will be fantastic. I have been doing a bit myself, and tomorrow will turn to a Grasmere gingerbread recipe.
(Snow shoveling was actually sort of fun, because a three-year-old passing by with his mom and his tiny blue shovel gave me much pleasure. He kept my spirits aloft...and so far my muscles seem to have no ache.)

I love that bitter-sweet song. Poor Vincent. I wish he would have had some idea of the appreciation of his work that came after his lifetime.
ReplyDeleteI am enjoying this quiet moment amongst your Christmas pictures. So elegant, and yet my favorite may just be the one of the wee woolly piggy!
Fairy beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWhat a delightful combination - angles & art & a beautiful song/poem - you've matched the images perfectly. And you've topped it off with a crown! Marvellous.
ReplyDeleteWow. I love that song (and its subject)and these are at once ethereal & lovely and strangely menacing. I don't know why. But it's interesting. Very interesting.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
Beautiful photographs and well chosen words. A very Happy Christmas to you and yours!
ReplyDeleteI am eternally amazed at how a few photos and some poetry make me want to cry every time I read your blog. I'm not sure if I can take it some days, so I wait until I have my resolve settled, and I dive back in. But it doesn't matter, I get misty every time.
ReplyDeleteYour blog is very nice :) .I really like it !
ReplyDeleteMerry Xmas ^^!

ReplyDeleteHallo!
Beautiful dolls. Although strangely, a little touch creepy in some undefinable way.
ReplyDeleteCatch the breeze and the winter chills
ReplyDeleteIn colors on the snowy linen land.
And now I understand what you tried to say to me...
I love these ethereal creations!
Wonderful photos, as usual, Merisi. And "Vincent" is an old-time favorite of mine. Used to be on the radio all the time when I was 15 or 16.
ReplyDeleteWonderful!
ReplyDeleteThe effect was quite strange and magical. I'd like one of those fairies, though. Or are they angels?
