A something in a summer’s Day
As slow her flambeaux burn away
Which solemnizes me.
A something in a summer’s noon —
A depth — an Azure — a perfume —
Transcending ecstasy.
And still within a summer’s night
A something so transporting bright
I clap my hands to see —
Then veil my too inspecting face
Lets such a subtle — shimmering grace
Flutter too far for me —
The wizard fingers never rest —
The purple brook within the breast
Still chafes it narrow bed —
Still rears the East her amber Flag —
Guides still the sun along the Crag
His Caravan of Red —
So looking on — the night — the morn
Conclude the wonder gay —
And I meet, coming thro’ the dews
Another summer’s Day!

Quintessential hollyhocks! And the poem is new to me. Thank you once more!
ReplyDelete,
ReplyDelete@ riechies:
Thank you - it was such a gorgeous late summer day,
and the light was out of this world.
@ Vicki Lane:
Emily has written so many beautiful poems, hasn't she? So many delihts to discoer.
I spent what must have been almost an hour, sitting on the floor under the flowers, trying to capture those blossoms - they were dancing linke crazy in the wind! ;-)
.
Merisi, I find an exquisitely delicate, ethereal, even sensual quality to these pictures, that recall wispy summer petticoats...
ReplyDeleteMerisi, where are The Belvedere Palace and the gardens of Prince Eugene of Savoy?
ReplyDelete.
ReplyDelete@ Wandring Star:
I agree - it was such a wonderfully bright late summer day!
@ LAKE VIEWER:
These particular gardens are part of Eugene's BELVEDERE Palaces right in the center of Vienna.
He owned other gardens, outside the city, among them Schloss Hof.

ReplyDeleteHere are two links to more images of Prince Eugene's gardens:
Belvedere Palace, at the heart of Vienna,
Schloss Hof, an hour east of Vienna.
Enjoy! :-)

Do you really have hollyhocks in September? Those are lovely ones...
ReplyDeleteThat delicate pink, and Emily Dickinson...what gifts. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see your enthusiasm is still there! Autumn next, the most photogenice season (colours and light are so good). You got my email? You never reply by email.
ReplyDeletePerfect poetry to go with the delicate colored Hollyhocks. So pretty for a summer day.
ReplyDeleteThe soft pink of the hollyhock is so soft and beautiful at the end of summer. Lovely words.
ReplyDeleteThank you for coming to my blog. You have beautiful pictures on your blog and interesting commentaries. I always thought Vienna as a romantic city that I would love to visit. I went through a Johann Strauss, Jr period and bought most of his repertoire – about 40 CDs! I’ll come back to read more of your posts.
ReplyDeleteLovely summer song.
