OIASANTORINI, I do love Mistress Venice in winter, but she also has special charms in summer: Early mornings when the air is still fresh and cool, lazy lunches in the shade, siesta, long walks into dusk, dinner in a quiet calle.
One has to respect and appreciate the art of living in hotter climes, do as the locals do, most of all: take a siesta, per l'amor di dio! ;-)
BARBARA, you should definitely plan to visit soon, you would enjoy it immensely! Autumn and Spring are easier on one's energy.
Merisi, It's been about 25 years since I was last in Venice. Your pictures make me long to go back! My daughter and I have just "ooh'd and aaah'd" over that red dress...Italian style is the best!! Would also love to have a set of those whimsical coffee cups and saucers :D Thanks for sharing a piece of your visit with us!!! ~Allie
I'm a realist, and a romantic. I know I shall never get to see Venice, but I have studied it's History, it's art and architecture and it must be the most fascinating place in Italy.
That first picture is beautiful, I should love to try and paint it.
I so need to visit Venice someday. I do love your pictures of it. That first one with the pink reflections on the water next to the blue boats - perfection!
Hi ~ The picture of the dress is my favorite. Why? Because I guess it caught me off guard - I rather expected the scenery pictures but the dress hanging there...reminds me of romance, fun, celebration...I love traveling to your corner of the world through your photos!
Venice is my favorite city in the world. Your photos are gorgeous. It sounds like you had a great time there. I am hoping to visit it again this fall. I have been there many times, but not enough.
Your photos bring back fond memories of riding in a gondola, having my first taste of good champagne (age 20), exploring the many streets and cross-over bridges. Ahh, I really need to return.
i prefer to visit this city (she is more of a mistress than a city) in winter, rather than summer.... but i will look at your images of it anytime ;-)
ReplyDeleteVenice, a romantic place that I read about a lot in books but never been there.
ReplyDelete.

To me, Venice is a city set apart -- like no other I've ever visited. Maybe the magic is enhanced by the fragility of its existence.

ReplyDeleteSo sad.
My brother was there about 10 days ago.
They arrived by boat and said it was amazing.....
lucky you.
Could I possibly have your permission to save that first picture, so's I could gloat over it again and again! It's STUNNING...
