A special thank you
to "Wandring Star"
who pointed out to me
in the previous post
that I had photographed
developing mammatus clouds!
I had taken the pictures for the different textures
in the foreground and the dramatic sky background. ;-)

Clicking on the images
will take you through more stormy weather
and through a special glass house.

Looks pretty much like here!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos.
I dont know a mammatus cloud from a pappatus cloud .. but these are lovely
ReplyDeleteimpressive...but I hope, sunshine will visit you this week end too!
ReplyDelete:-)
Wow, I've learned something! Mammatus isn't a term I was familiar with, though we see plenty of clouds like that --
ReplyDeleteWikipedia says:Mammatus (also known as mammatocumulus, meaning "bumpy clouds") is a meteorological term applied to a cellular pattern of pouches hanging underneath the base of a cloud. The name "mammatus" is derived from the Latin mamma (udder), due to the resemblance between the shape of these clouds and the udder of a cow.
Coool pictures.
ReplyDeleteMerisi, those pictures are of real academic interest, as well as photographic merit :-)
ReplyDeleteI think the third one down is particularly striking and would grace the illustrations of a meteorology text book.
Are you sure you didn't take these in K-land? Because that's what the sky has looked like here the entire week!
ReplyDeleteMerisi....Your pictures as always are lovely! I would welcome a stormy sky right now!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever heard of mammatus. but I recognize rain clouds when I see them.
ReplyDeleteYou captured so much emotion in the storm-brewing clouds. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend Merisi.
Spectacular! I can feel the wind on my face!!! ~Janine XO
ReplyDeleteI adore a lovely grey sky.
ReplyDeleteSomewhat scary! Did these clouds turn into stormy weather? When we see this stuff in Florida, we head for the hills...it means not only a lot of rain, but a lot of lightning!
ReplyDeleteWe so rarely get stormy weather where I live (So. California). I thoroughly enjoyed these photos.
ReplyDeletewhat amazing clouds...
ReplyDeleteLovely stormy skies in this, and the preceing post. I am glad you are posting in skywatch again.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous skies! I have learned this term for those clouds from other bloggers. I saw them once here recently. It is nice to see how they look in other parts of the world. Very beautiful in yours!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful sky shots and I also love the flower shots in the next post.
ReplyDeleteMerisi: Beautiful captures of the storm building skies, thanks for sharing.
