  10. I LOVE that tree--is it yours, Merisi? So pretty--just classically lovely. And all these beautiful colored window frames...what magical images here.

  11. Charles Gramlich,
I love the shade of green of these windows.

    Steph,
    this is a Balsam Fir.
In DC it was possible to get this kind of tree. I remember one year we had a Douglas Fir, also beautiful, but I missed the characteristic fragrance of the Balsam Fir.

    Tut-Tut,
    oh yes! ;-)
Looking at these windows made me think of a German poem, "Christmas" by Joseph von Eichendorf. I wouldn't dare to offer a translation, here's the original:

    Weihnachten

    Markt und Straßen stehn verlassen,
    still erleuchtet jedes Haus,
Sinnend' geh ich durch die Gassen,
    alles sieht so festlich aus.

    An den Fenstern haben Frauen
    buntes Spielzeug fromm geschmückt,
    Tausend Kindlein stehn und schauen,
    sind so wunderstill beglückt.

Und ich wandre aus den Mauern
    Bis hinaus ins freie Feld,
    Hehres Glänzen, heil'ges Schauern!
Wie so weit und still die Welt!

    Sterne hoch die Kreise schlingen,
    Aus des Schnees Einsamkeit
    Steigt's wie wunderbares Singen-
    O du gnadenreiche Zeit!
