  2. Gorgeous autumn leaves - we are just turning over here too - simply the best time of year - until spring comes, then I change my mind. :)

  3. Willow,
oh yes, so full of atmosphere, isn't it?

    Such a tepid, whitish day:
Will not even move my fingers,
    just the eyelids lie awake.
    (Solch ein lauer weißer Tag,
Mag die Hände gar nicht rühren,
    Nur die Augen liegen wach.)
    ,

    Dear Readers:
The lines quoted above are from the poem "Solch ein lauer weißer Tag" by Max Dauthendey (* 25 July 1867 in Würzburg, Germany, † 29. August 1918 in Malang, Java).
This link takes you to the Dauthendey entry in the German Wikipedia.

I would like to express my gratitude to Professor Walter A. Aue, who through his webpage introduced me to this poet.

  6. And yet the brave little daisies struggle bravely on as if to brighten the browning earth like terrestrial stars.

  9. Our falling leaves are slow but steady. I can see space opening in the woods.

  10. Autumn pics everywhere and yours a little different.

Loved seeing the marshes. I have done a couple of posts recently on our local marshes.

  11. I started to say the dainty daisies and the fallen leaf was my favorite but I really can't choose. I like them all and the poetry that accompanies them is just the right touch.

  12. Oh, some beautiful shots of the translucent leaves, and the poems are excellent. I'm going to come back here for more and jot down notes on some of these. I love good poetry. Auden, incidentally, is a huge favorite of mine.

Have fun in Italy and think of me as you sit at a cafe watching the Italian world go by.......I'm envious!!! Can't wait to see what kind of photos you return with.....sounds like a little kid..."What did you bring me?" :) Happy travels!!

  17. It's like that here too. I don't know, it seems to be the best time of year for dog walks. Nice light, nice trees and leaves. He won't walk on leaves with his paws though, so he sort of hops around!

  19. such glorious studies of leaves still vibrant and those who have lost the luster of life...yet still have a beauty all their own. Auden is probably one of my favorite poets, such an apt verse for the post!

    You have GORGEOUS photos!!

  32. If I were a leaf as pretty as that, I'd want to be on the tree and swaying in the breeze come summer, winter, autumn and spring.:)

  33. Autumn is so very much my favorite time of the year. The beautiful colors of the leaves, the slight chill in the air, and (here, at least) the holidays of Halloween and Thanksgiving. Thanks, as always, for the lovely images.

  34. They are falling too fast for my taste. I wish October was about twice as long as it is (but then maybe I wouldn't appreciate it as much? I don't know - I suspect I could enjoy a LOT of October!)

    Love your leaf pictures.

  35. Such rich colours.

And among the flowers they'll not regret leaving the tree.

  36. Dear readers,
thank you so much for your generous comments, which give me so much encouragement.
I have been travelling since last Thursday. I am looking forward to catching up with your blogs when I return home during the weekend. I will have pictures from autumn in Tuscany for you then, and more of Vienna too.

  37. Was wondering where you were.
We were in Florence for a week the last two years when we lived in Marrakesh.
So we rely on you to supply us with Tuscan fall on your blog.
I always think of Milton's description in Paradise Lost of the fallen angels "...thick as fallen leaves upon a brook in Valombrossa".
I must look up the passage again....

  38. So happy to hear that you are traveling. I was concerned when there wasn't a post for a while and had to come back and see if you put something on the comments.
I can't wait to see your fabulous pictures from Tuscany. (:0)
