Afternoon with Clouds
Mörbisch am See
Burgenland, Austria
Mörbisch is a small town on the western shore of Lake Neusiedl
(Neusiedler See), 45 miles south of Vienna in the Burgenland Region.
The Mörbisch Operetta Festival, with its picturesque setting
on a floating stage in the lake, is only one of the attractions that draws visitors from all over to this quaint place.
The pedestrian friendly streets and paths are lined by beautifully kept old vintner houses, traditional flower and vegetable gardens, and quiet courtyards beyond. Excellent sailing on the lake enhances the region's appeal, as do miles of hiking and biking trails which lead through vineyards and along reedbeds into Hungary, from there on to the eastern shore of the lake on the Austrian side, and back to Mörbisch on the western lake shore.
The landscape around Mörbisch is a World Heritage Site.
A large part of its shores and reedbeds belong to
Neusiedler See and Fertö-Hanság National Parks.

Those clouds were fascinating,
I couldn't take my eyes off them.
The skies ARE painted. How incredibly beautiful and interesting. Very nice post!
ReplyDeleteSuch clouds! Beautiful shots here:) Mine is posted HERE too. Happy SWF!~
ReplyDeleteThey do look painted. Amazing. I love the angle on the last. Great stuff...
ReplyDeleteTo answer your question, I took the picture of an approaching storm near Kyle, SD, in June of last year. I was shooting a television show about storm chasing. The same storm knocked over tractor trailers and produced one tornado.
Beautiful skies and an enchanting place.
ReplyDeleteMerisi: What lovely clouds you showed in you post today.
ReplyDeleteVery nice series of clouds.
ReplyDeleteLovely painting, the artist is great! =) I like the angle of the last photo too.

Your opening picture looks like it could be a Vermeer painting. Wow!
ReplyDeleteDear readers,
ReplyDeletethank you all for visiting and for your kind comments. I appreciate them immensely, and shall do my best to come see your Sky Watch pictures over the coming days!
As regards to Seamus' question, "Were you using a polarizing filter?", no, I did not, I don't even own any for my digital camera. I also don't photoshop my pictures, or they like. It is either go as they come, or no blogging for me. ;-)
Willow,
when I spotted those puffy clouds, I did indeed think of Vermeer, of his "The Little Street" painting. I saw it at the National Gallery in Washington DC, when they had the big Vermeer exhibition there some years ago (and lines that stretched around the block, four hours of waiting time, at least). It has remained etched in my memory for the exquisite detailling, and the clouds, of course. ;-)
Merisi, you know - jedes Mal wenn du von Wien nach Mörbisch fährst, kommst du bei mir vorbei :-)
ReplyDeleteLovely images. Thanks for sharing with us.
ReplyDeleteCheers
Great series of sky photos! The clouds paint the sky with such beauty!
