"... the open market place provides the most beneficial means of exchange between farmers and residents."
Quoted from a leaflet
about
GREENMARKET AT UNION SQUARE
in New York City.
Wouldn't you agree,
from looking at these pictures?
The Victor Adler-Markt in the 10th district is only a few metro stops
from Karlsplatz and the State Opera.
Clicking on the images
will transport you to other
visits of Viennese open-air markets:
1 Kutschkermarket in December
2 Naschmarkt along Wienzeile in the 4th District
3 16th District Farmer's Market at Yppenplatz
(from there, links to other visits during the year)
4 Market Day at Kutschkermarkt in May
5 16th District Brunnenmarkt in November
6 16th District: Choice Foodstuffs with Rhythm & Blues at Yppen Platz
7 16th District: Yppenplatz on Saturday Morning
8 16th District: Saturday Morning at Yppenplatz: The Side-Show
9 Organic Farmers Market at the Freyung
Believe it or not
these donuts were offered at a bakery
in the covered part of the market.
Sometimes Vienna is
everything.
In the mood for more donuts?
Lots and lots of mostly American donuts?
Dare to click on the picture!
Das Foto Nr. 7 ist heute mein Lieblingsfoto :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm hungry just looking at this delicious post...mmm...Happy Day, Merisi ((HUGS))
ReplyDeleteFantastic! I'm so glad you went on a trip so now I can look at your wonderful photos.
ReplyDeleteMarket's are such rich sources of photographic goodness aren't they?
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your comment on my blog, I am putting all my new photos up on my art and writing blog now. Your stuff really inspired me to get back into it. Thanks!
Great photos!! Wish I had more open market near me. I seek out farmers markets in the nice weather though :)
ReplyDeleteI don't dare click on those donuts...
ReplyDeleteThe produce and flowers in the open market look so inviting and beautiful. Wish I could shop there. Beautiful.
how great! this is what I like about other countries.. you can have markets outside.
ReplyDeleteherer that is rare because the weather is just too hot...
If I ate donuts I'd click but I don't so I won't!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to be in your shoes at your local market though.
The bunches of "pussy willows" are marvellous!
ReplyDeleteLovely, all of it. I like the pussy willows, too, and the great cabbages. I wish I could draw, really, to capture all of it.
ReplyDeleteI don't have anything like that around me. All I have a is a boring supermarket.

What wonderful blues in the photos.
ReplyDeleteMust be vegetables and food day on the blogs.........
Lovely photos, as ever.
I much prefer markets to "supermarkets"! Stuff doesn't come in useless packaging and I think is usually fresher!
ReplyDeleteI hope some of those donuts will be left for me...
How are your gulls? Black heads yet?
Bulgariana:
ReplyDeleteI liked the speed with which the lady there was bagging the sourkraut! :-)
Tracy:
Thank heaven I had half a vegetable sandwich first thing I arrived, otherwise ... ;-)
Dawn:
Thank you! :-)
Andre Veloux:
You are welcome! :-)
Not only a rich source of of food, but also photographic goodness, I agree!
My melange:
ReplyDeleteFarmer's market are the very best!
photowannabe:
The donuts won't bite you! :-)
simon:
For really great green markets one also needs farms not too far away.
The Viennese markets are nothing near the great ones I visited in Venice and Florence. I could wax nostalgic for hours about the variety and freshness (and prices!) of food there.
ParisBreakfasts:
ReplyDeleteThere were plenty of other temptations besides the donuts. I don't know how I managed to get away without falling for one. ;-)
Becca:
I was very tempted to buy some already for the Easter tree!
tut-tut:
Yes, many a great painting subject to be found there. ;-)
Cathy:
Sometimes one can get bored of the supermarket fare. I hope you do get at least a farmer's stand during summer!
Elizabeth:
ReplyDeleteThank you!
I did not realize until I looked at the photos how close the blue-greens of the ladies' coats and the leeks are. .
Maalie:
There'll be plenty of donuts left for you, I won't touch them! ;-)
You have a point there, supermarket packaging is often way beyond the truly necessary.
Will update you about the gulls as soon as I manage to sneak by there!
Why couldn't I have found these Donuts in Vienna?! I take back all the bad-mouthing about Viennese Donuts Merisi.
ReplyDeleteAnytime I travel I try to find out when and where the daily/weekly markets occur. I can't help but enjoy all the local choices and watching the people. Your pictures of the market have the same impact.
ReplyDeleteAh, I see the pussywillow is for sale. That means only one thing... Lent is almost over!
ReplyDeleteI'll be putting up our Osterbaum too.
Even Pussywillows for sale! :-)
