Viennese Memoranda

The Beautiful Blue Danube.
Unveiled

Ever wondered why Johann Strauß composed
a waltz instead of "Blue Danube Blues"?
Remember the lyrics?
"The mermaids from the riverbed,
whispering as you flow by
... " *
That's why!

"Once you decide to titillate
instead of illuminate
,"
Bill Moyers said,
"you're on a slippery slope."

Slippery slope?
What happens if
I take
the stairs
instead?
EnAlightenment?

  1. It all looks so lovely and romantic. I feel sure the Tourist Board should be paying you a monthly stipend for all this marvelous publicity!

  3. Why is it that all of your photos make me feel as though I am ummm.... not resting enough, in my life?
    Not sitting in enough cafes?
Not seeing enough reflections in water?
Always one tiramisu short of my quota?

  4. I love the way you handled this series. Great photos and words too. I didn't know there were words to the Blue Danube. Silly me.

Love the updated version, and now I hear the original echoing in my brain.

I've had a lovely day, how about you?
Sung to the tune of "New York"

  6. Love the Ando Café, looks very agreeable!

Thanks for your visiting and nice comment on my blog. I Google and see that the Banyan tree is a fig that starts its life as an epiphyte when its seeds germinate in the cracks and crevices on a host tree (or on structures like buildings and bridges). "Banyan" often refers specifically to the species Ficus benghalensis. Thanks for visiting and comment!

  10. I grew up listening to the Blue Danube waltz; it's the only thing my mother ever plays on the piano. And I never knew there were lyrics.

    Beautiful photographs, as always.
