Everything is illuminated
Looking ahead by looking back

Weihnachten
Markt und Straßen
stehn verlassen,

Still erleuchtet jedes Haus,

Sinnend geh ich durch die Gassen,

Alles sieht so festlich aus.

Christmas
Shops and streets
are now deserted,
every house illuminated soothingly;
Lost in thought along the lanes I wander,
everything exudes such festive air.

Photographed along
the few hundred meters walking
from Demel's at Kohlmarkt
past Haydn's Michaelerhaus,
St. Michael's Church and
the fountain at St. Michael's Square,
towards Michaelerdurchgang and the passage
from Michaelerplatz to Habsburgergasse.

I hope I did not shock you too much!
I happened upon these pictures by chance
and all of a sudden I was looking forward
to Christmas time!
Cheers,

  2. Thank you, Val! :-)
Temperatures here have dropped 15°C overnight, it is dark and rainy outside, probably the reason for my sudden Christmas frenzy. ;-)

  5. Savannah,
    *smile* and big hug! xxx

    Vreni,
as if catapulted from the pool (I was still swimming yesterday) into the icy sea! ;-)

  6. Oh no no no! As beautiful as these pictures are, it's far too soon (for me) to be thinking about that time of year. Even the stores hereabouts wait (just barely) for Halloween to be over before putting up the tinsel.

  7. A lovely surprise. Vienna illuminated is like gilding the lily -- heavenly!

  8. For some reason these make me think of Christmas. Especially the mirrors and reflections.

  9. Louciao,
I know, I am the first to complain about any holiday stuff showing up too early! I promise this here will remain a unique lapse, an aberration, brought on by the tumbling of temperatures overnight. Suddenly on a dark rainy day, the lights of Christmas seemed so warm and comforting. ;-)

    Vicki Lane,
    I agree! :-)

    Charles Gramlich,
    it IS Christmas. *giggles*
    September surprise! :-)))

Oui, le repas au vieux château était excellent.
