"Here there is nothing
I have taken from you
so I begin with memory
as old songs do
in this café
against the night
in this villa refrain
where we collect the fragment
no longer near us
to make ourselves whole ... "

ReplyDeleteI think that mirror keeps a copy of everyone who drinks coffee in front of it. It plays those memories back at night in a ghostly light with eerie music.
ReplyDeleteYes, I'll linger, thank you!
ReplyDeleteYour pictures and Onaatje's poetry pair perfectly!
ReplyDeleteI loved your earlier post with the shadows and the big bronze bottom at the fountain side gave me a bit of a giggle.
love the pillars with the curtains -daring!
ReplyDeleteTh young lady with the houdstooth jacket in your post above -seen them make a come back in magazines, but not actually see anyone wear it:)
It is always so nice to have coffee and all too many calories in such a lovely setting!

Whenever I am visiting you, I am sure I will envy you the opportunity of going into all those perfect places:)
ReplyDeleteCafe Sperl was always my favorite when I lived in Vienna. And I'll be back there in two weeks to visit a sick relative. A sad occasion but I'm also eager to wander my old neighborhoods...
